WIESNEGG
ESTABLISHMENTS
|
|
| The
WIESNEGG establishments have been associated directly, between 1850
and 1900, to the works of the Laboratories of Research of the Quartier
Latin to the number of which represents eminently the one of the Ecole normale supérieure
. Specialized in the manufacture of scientific devices,
they constructed indeed for great scientists of the time, in narrow
link with them, the instruments of which they had need for their experiences.
These scientists were called Henri HOLY-FATTENING POND DEVILLE, Louis
PASTEUR, Charles CHAMBERLAND, the Dr ROUX, the Dr POUPINEL, the Dr
FOX etc. |

On
about ten scientific devices presented on the big table of the"
Room of the Scientific Memories" of the Pasteur institute Museum,
three at least leave the shops of the Rue des Ursulines and are signed
WIESNEGG. Two have been used by Louis Pasteur in his laboratory of
the Ecole normale supérieure of the street of Ulm and have probably
been constructed on his indications: a very big and very beautiful
"bouillon" made of red copper, and especially a sort of
heavy" pressure cooker" made of iron and in copper, with
a manometer, an adjustable security valve with a needle, and a thermometer.
It is the first autoclave in the world, probably constructed in 1879.
The third device is another autoclave, more small and more elegant
constructs some years later for M. CHAMBERLAND. |

In
Paris the Establishment WIESNEGGS had for customers the Ecole normale supérieure
, the Faculty of the Sciences, the Public aid, the
Pasteur Institute, the Faculty of Medicine. They also had some customers
in provinces and abroad.
Toward 1890, while the future of the family business appeared insured,
his young animators Georges and Eugene WIESNEGG decided to enter
one and the other to the seminary. The fund of trade was sold in
1892 to M. Paul LEQUEUX, engineer of the Factories. This one and,
after him his son then his grandsons have been continued to make
of the former WIESNEGG establishments an international specialist
of the asepsis and the sterilization.
